How do you clean the back on a program of 79 chevy custom deluxe?
this guy at the shop told me of lubricant to take the rear lid and Jack the rear of the truck and spraying WD-40 there and turn the wheels … where I can but I just wasn't sure if thats the right thing to do.
I own a store, and build many differences to race. The way I do it is I get about a gallon of kerosene, put a bucket under the housing, remove the lid and use a spray or a bottle to go down with. You want to run both wheels to get the fuel to empty, but it's a real good job. Kerosene is oil based, so it does a great job of cutting all the old sludge away. I use a stiff brush to get good in the teeth and wash from top to bottom. In this way it will clean the bearings good too. Once its own, you can take the rest with rags or paper towels. It is essential that you replace the oil with good oil for your differential type. If it has a label on the housing bolts everywhere, then you must go by what is on that tag. Try to have the front than the rear, so it will run backwards, and not around the pond's smooth landing gear. I keep the back as low as I can, and raise the front as high as I can, and this will ensure the gunk all run in the background. I also use a magnet to catch any / all metal which may be included. Remember, you can not get too own, so that's why I use a gallon. If it is a posi-traction rearend type, then it is a must you use for oil transmission this type. If not, then you can use oil 90 weight steady speed. It is written that the 70W 90W gear oil, and it will take about 2 1 / 2 bottles to fill it back. You can get a hand pump for about $ 10 at parts store put oil back in it with. Use a new gasket sealing, and a thin layer of RTV sealant, and pay attention to all the bolts that go completely into the interior that they must have sealant on the bolts so they do not leak.
